SEO for a Small Business Static Website
I did some work for my friends who own Pine Rive Trailer Sales. Their business is located right next door. They sell all different kinds of trailers for snowmobiles, 4-wheelers, and enclosed trailers.
Their website hasn’t been updated for over 5 years and needs a major overhaul. They didn’t want to spend to much money so I told them we could just spend 2 to 4 hours doing some Search Engine Optimization.
They use GoDaddy for their web hosting. This is the first time I have worked on a GoDaddy website, and I am not impressed. Very hard to figure out where to go to edit the web pages. I use NameCheap Hosting and 1 and 1 Web Hosting and both are very easy to navigate and find what you need.
We worked for 2 hours on the front page and made some changes. Made changes on the Meta Tags and changed all the wording on the front page.
Whoever setup the main site years ago, used .asp pages. The user can pick from a drop down list and then view different trailers from this list.
Here is where I have run into an issue. Another friend is telling them that because of them using the .asp pages, that their whole website will not get crawled by Google and other search engines. They don’t want to do any more updates to the other static pages now.
I think the other person is right that Google won’t crawl and index the inventory .asp pages, but in my opinion, they will crawl and index the 4 or 5 static webpages. So any SEO changes made to these pages should help them.
They show up in Google for the search “Trailer Sales in Cloquet”, but not in “Trailer Sales in Duluth”. Cloquet is a small town of about 13,000 people, but Duluth is about 100,000 people.
If anyone has a different opinion, please post an comment to this post.
