Where do I get a Website / Blog Privacy Policy?

If you run a Website or Blog you need to have a a Privacy Policy on your site.

You need to let your customers know about your Information Gathering Practices and Policies.  You need to tell people about any data being collected durning their visit to your website and how you are going to use their data.

To protect your readers, you need a disclosure statement which is your Privacy Policy.  Your readers are concerned how you are going to use their personal data.  You need to be up front with them and let them know what you are doing.

Many people who are experts in SEO tend to believe that having a Website / Blog Privacy Policy helps in your ranking with Google.  A Privacy Policy on your website/blog tells Google that you are real business.

One thing I advise you not to do, is copy someone else’s website privacy policy.  You need to make sure the details fit your website.  Don’t get into trouble with the wrong information on your policy.

The best practice is to get a lawyer with experience in writing Privacy Policies.  I know 90% of us can’t afford a lawyer for something like this.

One of the best ways to create a Privacy Policy is through the Direct Marketing Association.  They have an Online Privacy Policy Generator that makes creating one easy.  They have you answer some questions and when you are done it will create your policy.

Go to http://www.dmaresponsibility.org/PPG/ and create a policy for your website and/or blog now.

I did this for my website and you can view it here.  Internet Marketer’s Organizer Blog Privacy Policy

  1. A privacy policy is of utmost importance. I agree with the fact that when you have a privacy policy, it improves your google ranking. As mentioned, cutting and pasting is never a good idea. It’s best to have your own privacy policy. There are many options like TRUSTe’s small business offerings which provide a simple, reasonable alternative to cutting and pasting a privacy policy.

A privacy policy lends credibility to your site. General trust and reputation is raised on a higher level. Readers/visitors/consumers will stay longer and come back.
