Without a computer, you can’t run your Internet Marketing Business.  You need a plan, so you know exactly who to contact and what to do when something go’s wrong with your PC.

Computer Distaster’s to Plan For?

• Computer Errors: 

  Always write down the exact error message.  Then what you want to do is type in the exact error message into Google Search.  Then look through the search results for the correct fix. 

  To tell the truth, I use this method almost everyday in my Job as an Computer Support Specialist for a county in Minnestoa.  I call this method my Google Help Desk.

• Computer Viruses – Spyware – Malware

  These days being connected to the Internet, means it’s only a matter of time before your computer gets Infected with a Virus or Spyware. 

  You MUST HAVE some kind of Virus & Spyware protection on your computer.  Paid is better, mainly becasue it will download automaticly virus updates.  Free versions are just as good for detecting and deleting virus and spyware. 

  I Recommend AVG AntiVirus, SpyBot Search & Destroy, and Malwarebytes as the three best free software on the Internet for keeping your computer running.  If you can you should pay for AVG and Malwarebytes but the Free versions will work just as good.

• Computer Hardware Failure

  You are going to have hardware issues sometime.  You need to have a place to buy hardware and someone to install it.

I do daily backups to an external hard drive and then weekly backup to an Flash Drive.  The weekly backup I store off site.  You can get Flash Drives very cheap these days.  I use 4 flash drives to store my files.  I then have a month of backups off-site and its very handy.

What to think about BEFORE a Disaster!

You NEED to MAKE a PLAN and WRITE everything down.  Make a Document and Store it in a few different places.  It doesn’t help if the document is stored in your office and you have a fire.  The information is gone and you are back to square one.

• Where is your Off-Site Backup Stored?
• Where do you buy New Computer Equipment?  How long before you can get new equipment.
• Who is your Computer Support Company/Person?  Contact information.  Ask how long it will take them to put your Network back together.  Are they setting up both the Hardware and Software, or do you need two different companies.

If not you could be heading into major trouble.  How can you keep your business running, if you lose all your passwords, usernames, website urls, contacts, and many other business records?  You can’t think that it will never happen to you, but think its only a matter of time before it happens.

I work with computers everyday and the one reason why computer’s crash, is the hard drive go’s out.  If the hard drive crashes, they all or most of your data is GONE!  Please Plan ahead and when it does happen, you are covered.

Think about where you files are saved on your computer, which folders they are saved in.  Next think about where you want to backup your files.

Types Backup Media You Can Use

• USB External Hard Drive:  Can store anywhere from 500 MB’s to 500 GB’s or more.  Easy to use, and I would recommend this as a great option.
• Flash Drives:  Can store anywhere from 200 MB to 10 GB’s – Easy to use and transfer data from computer to computer.
• DVD/CD Rom Disks:  Can only store small amounts of data, but works great for anything under 4.7 GB.
• Tape Drives:  Normally used for Big Companies, but smaller ones use them also.   Tapes will hold anywhere from 100 GB’s and up.
• Online Backup:  Can store anywhere from 1 GB to unlimited GB.  Cost can be high, but well worth it.
