The other day I went to the home page of my blog and it started to load, and then would stop.

The status bar at the bottom left, showed it was trying to hit “www.retweet.com”.  It would then say “done”, but the page didn’t load all the way.

I knew I had a wordpress plug-in called ReTweet.  I tried to go to ReTweet’s website, and it wouldn’t load.  This told me their website was down, and it was affecting my blog from loading all the way.

As I couldn’t login to my blog from the homepage, the admin login didn’t load, I went to the admin login page for my blog.  Everyone’s admin login is their blogs address with wp-admin at the end.

When I was logged in, I deactivated the Retweet Plug-in.  When I went to my blog, I was able to see my whole blog.

When ReTweet’s was back up and running the next day, I activated the retweet plugin again and my blog was working fine.

This is just an example of what can happen with plugins, and I really like retweets plugin and will keep using it.

I had another problem like this where my wordpress admin was blank and it turned out the problem was a plug-in that caused it also.  Here is the Blog Post on how to fix this problem.

Let me show you step by step how to setup your blog and how to get the code from YouTube.

1. Add “Smart YouTube” Plugin to your Blog.  Login to your Word Press Admin area.  Click on Plugins and then click on “Add New”.  Type in “Smart YouTube” and click the Search Button.  Install “Smart YouTube” and Activate the plugin.

    

    

2. Next find a YouTube Video that you want to add to your Blog.  Go to http://www.youtube.com.  I like to login with my Google Account, as then you can subscribe to people’s videos that you like.  Do a search for the topic you want.

    

3. I did a search for “Affiliate Marketing For Beginners”.  I normally look for videos that have a high views number.  You want something that is very popular.  

   

   I found this video by the username netvicar.  I clicked on the Headline and then you are taken to the video page.

    

4. Now you want to look at the right hand side for a box like this.  What you want to click on is the little blue button on the bottom right hand side. 

   

5. Click on this Blue Button and you will see the box below.

   

6. Now there is a few things I would recommend you change.  I would uncheck the box for “Include related videos”.  If you don’t they will show related videos, and when someone clicks on them, they will leave your blog and go to YouTube.  You want them to stay on your Blog.

    

7. I like to check the box “Show Border” and pick one that matches your blog colors.  I also like to make sure the video size is “425 x 344″ as this size I have found is great for my blogs that are 3 columns wide.

    

8. When you make these changes, the code is updated.  You want copy the code after “URL”.  Do not copy the Embed Code.

    

9. Take this code and paste it into your blog post where you want the YouTube Video to show up.  Here is the code that I copied, (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wqVmwQ4I79A).  See how it shows up as a link in the post now. 

   NOTE:  Paste this code in the normal “Visual” editor, not the “HTML” editor.

    

10. Then all you need to do, to make the video show up is to change the link.  To make this work, all you need to do is add the letter “v” to the http part of the link.  Change “http://” to httpv://”.

     

11. So just adding this letter to the code will make the video show up like below.

This is very easy, but if you run into any problems, just leave a comment and I will work with you to find the answer.

I was listening to a PodCast the other day and they talked about how important it is to have a way for people from other countries be able to read your blog.  Sorry, but I can’t remember who’s podcast it was.

They talked how they started getting more hits from other countries and how this helps your blog rank well in search from other countries.

There is a few different translation plugins for WordPress.  I am using “Google AJAX Translation and I really like it.

A “Translate” button can be added to the bottom or top of posts, pages, and/or comments.

When the button is clicked a popup window opens showing a list of 52 available languages.

You are able to pick which countries you want to show, but I am not sure why you wouldn’t pick them all.

To install login to your WordPress Blog Admin area.  On the left hand side, click on “Add New”.

Now you want to type in translation in the search box and click on the Search button.

I tried a few of these and found I like the Google AJAX Translation WordPress plugin.  Try a few out and see how they look.

I started using ComentLuv Plugin for WordPress and I am really liking it.  When someone posts a comment on my website, it will look at their website address and look to see if they have a RSS Feed on their site.

It will then post a link to their last Blog Post on my site. 

What I really like about this is you can go to CommentLuv’s website at http://www.comluv.com and sign up.  Then what I like to do is do a search on their site.

You can search for Blogs that have CommentLuv enabled on their site.  I look for sites with a Page Rank higher than my blog and try to make at least two comments a day. 

What this does is give me four backlinks from Blogs with a higher page rank, which in turn will give me a higher page rank in the future.  Two links from my Blog URL and two links from my most recent posts.

I just make sure that I leave a good comment, not just a note saying “You have a good blog”.

I am also getting good ideas on future blog posts for my blog by reading other blogs, and also I use this with Twitter, so I can send people to check out good blogs I find.  I use Tweet Glide at the same time, so I am tweeting and getting Backlinks.

Get a routine down and stick with it.  I am trying to do this everyday and I think after a few months this routine will start to pay off.

In WordPress the default setting for comments is the nofollow attribute, which means that Google and other search engines will not follow that link and give them credit in the Ranking of websites.

I believe that we as bloggers, should allow the dofollow attribute on our blogs.  If someone takes the time and effort to leave a good comment on your blog, you should give them the backlink to their blog / website.

I approve all comments before they appear on my blog.  This gives me the chance to check out the website that the link go’s to.  If I don’t like the site, I don’t approve the comment.

I use a wordpress plugin called “Do Follow” to turn off the default “nofollow” attribute in my blog.

The Plugin name is in BOLD.  Copy the bold plugin name and on the left bar under Plugins, click on “Add New”.  Paste it into the Search Box and click “Search Plugins”.

You can find all of them except the first one, “Add Sig”.  Just Click on the link below and follow the instructions on how to install it.

Add Sig: This is one that I love.  Add a custom signature to the bottom of posts with the author’s information.  You can have links in the signature and anything with HTML in each Post.

Add to Any: Share/Bookmark/Email Button :  Help readers share, bookmark, and email your posts and pages using any service.  Everyone needs this so your readers can share your posts with their Social Media sites.

AdRotate:  Make making money easy with AdRotate. Add advanced banners to your website using the simplest interface available!  This is great for testing which of your banners get more clicks.  Remember TEST TEST TEST!

Akismet:  Akismet checks your comments against the Akismet web service to see if they look like spam or not.  Everyone needs this plugin on their blogs.

Best Post Page:   This plugin creates a page of your best posts based on views and comments.  Great little plugin, shows the posts which get the most traffic on you site.  You can set how many posts show up.

CommentLuv:  Plugin to show a link to the last post from the commenters blog by parsing the feed at their given URL when they leave a comment. Rewards your readers and encourage more comments.  This is one I am just starting to use, but it is recommended by some of the top bloggers.

Google XML Sitemaps:  This plugin will generate a sitemaps.org compatible sitemap of your WordPress blog which is supported by Ask.com, Google, MSN Search and YAHOO.  Another must use plugin, as it will help the Search Engines find and index all your blog posts.

OptinPop:  OptinPop is designed to help you build your blog subscriber list by showing your visitors a pop-up window containing the optin form of any webpage you create. You can tune the appearance of your pop-up window and other parameters on the OptinPop Settings page within the Plugins menu.  This is a great plugin, as you can use it to build your list.  As all great Internet Marketer’s should know, “The Money is in the List”.  I use this on my blog to help build my email list.

Publish To Facebook:  Publishes posts, pages or both to your Facebook Mini-Feed directly from WordPress.  Great plugin that automatically publishes your blog post to your Facebook account.  I love this plugin.  Check out my Facebook Page and send me a Friend request.

Sidebar Photoblog:  Share your daily photos on your blog sidebar easily.  Great plugin that is easy to use and your pictures show up in your blog.

Smart Youtube:  Insert YouTube videos in posts, comments and RSS feeds with ease and full customization.  Great way to post YouTube Videos in your blog.

StatPress:  Real time stats for your blog.  This is another one that is a must have for everyone.  You need to know where your viewers are coming from, what search terms they are using to find your blog, and what they are doing on your website.  Great way to find keywords that people are using to find your site and then you are able to use them more in your posts.

Twitter Tools: A complete integration between your WordPress blog and Twitter. Bring your tweets into your blog and pass your blog posts to Twitter. Show your tweets in your sidebar, and post tweets from your WordPress admin.  I like using this plugin as it automatically posts a tweet to twitter, using a URL shrinker to make your tweet the right size.

Ultimate Google Analytics: Enable Google Analytics on your blog. Has options to also track external links, mailto links and links to downloads on your own site.  Here is Google’s Analytics, plugin that works just like “StatPress”, but you can get a lot more useful information.  I like to use both, as StatPress is for a quick look, but I use Google Analytics for a more indepth look at my Stats.

Yesterday I tried to login to my Word Press Dashboard and I couldn’t get in.  I then started to think about what I did last inside the Dashboard.

The last thing I did was install a new plugin.  I installed a new Plugin called “Blog as PDF”.

The plugin will let you create a PDF file of all your Blog Posts.  I through this was a cool idea.

When I ran the plugin, I got an error message and nothing happeded.  I tried again to make a PDF of my Posts and got the error again.

Now I am not saying “Blog as PDF” is a bad plugin, as Word Press has OK’ed its use through their site.  It should work fine with most blogs.  Sometimes when installing a Plugin, you can get conflicts with your Blog.

When I was done working in the Word Press Dashboard, I logged out.  A few hours later I tried to login and got the blank page.  I didn’t have time to trouble shoot the problem until today.

To start troubleshooting, I tried to login on two different computers.  Same problem, so this told me it wasn’t my computers problem.

I went to what I call my Personal Help Desk “Google”.  I posted before about useing Google as your Personal Help Desk.  Check out this post.

What I did was type “after word press login page is blank” into Google.  It took me a few pages, but I then found a few things to try.

Since one of the things to try was to deactivate all my plugins, I through I would try this first.

Here are the steps I took:

1. I logged into my Cpanel.
2. I then opened my File Manager.
3. I then went to my blog folder, then wp-contents folder.
4. I then Renamed the Plugins folder to something like:  plugins.old.
5. I then created a new folder and call it plugins, inside the wp-contents folder.
6. Now go to your Blog and login to your Dashboard.
7. I was now able to login and see my dashboard again, yea baby.
8. Stay logged into your dashboard and go back to your Cpanel.
9. Now delete the plugins folder you created.
10. Next rename the folder called plugins.old back to plugins.
11. Next I went back into my Word Press Dashboard and deleted the last plugin I installed.
12. I then had to reactivate all my other plugins.  Don’t forget to do this, as renameing the folder will deactivate all your plugins.
13. I was now able to login and out with no problems.

This might not fix you issues, but its something to try, as it worked for me.  Good luck, and don’t forget to use Google for all your website, blog and computer issues.
